The Brief, Design & Execution

Elemental Projects was excited to take on the challenge to design and deliver a project simulation for a project community of 180+ staff for client Sydney Water in 2016 as part of their broader change program. ‘The Battle’ was designed to reflect the internal project management methodology, policies, processes and roles whilst taking participants to a fun world where they competed in teams to build war machines and prepare for the battle.

Game mechanics including reward and penalty, problem solving, innovation and featuring lots of unexpected plots twists and gaming toys drove participant engagement and illuminated the tension between competition and collaboration. Professional development, team building and change management were beautifully intertwined and executed in this relevant yet epic experience where learning retention, self reflection and team work prevailed.

‘The Battle’ project simulation is highly customisable and scalable for client context. It can be used to launch a new project/program, re-invogirate a tired project/program, develop a project team or department, launch a Project Management Office, or form part of a broader change program.

Award Winning Project Simulation for ‘Best Use of Gamification for Learning’

Elemental Projects and Sydney Water were announced as the winner of the ‘Best of Use of Gamification/Simulation for Learning‘ award in the AITD National Excellence Awards 2016 in November at their annual gala dinner for their epic project simulation, The Battle.
